Dr. Timothy Lesser

Dr. Timothy Lesser is a local product, born and raised in Manhattan Beach. He attended high school at Chadwick before graduating cum laude from Bowdoin College in Maine. He then attended medical school at the University of Southern California and completed his urology residency under the guidance of the legendary Dr. Jon Kaswick at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles.
Dr. Lesser’s focus is on combining proven oncologic principles with more modern, minimally-invasive surgical techniques. He was trained during the transition from traditional open surgery to minimally-invasive surgery (laparoscopy and robotics) for the management of urologic cancers. The foundations of cancer management began with his early training with Dr. Donald Skinner at USC, where he learned the open approach to the surgical management of bladder cancer. Throughout his training, he learned to treat all forms of urologic cancer using these principles translated to the laparoscopic and robotic arena.
Dr. Lesser also remains on the cutting edge of treatments for common male urologic conditions. The paradigm for the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia has shifted away from the operating room and into the office, where newer modalities such as UroLift, Rezūm, and transurethral microwave therapy have allowed for continued excellent outcomes with remarkably simpler recoveries. Similarly, the treatment of erectile dysfunction is evolving, and Dr. Lesser combines the traditional treatments with newer methods such as GAINSWave.
Dr. Lesser is currently the Chief of Urology at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance and was previously an Associate Clinical Professor at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Like all the physicians at South Bay Urology, he is Board-Certified.
He prides himself on providing the urologic care that he would want for himself or his family, from the simplest to the most complex conditions. His interests outside of urology include spending time and traveling with his wife and two children, ocean sports, snowboarding, swimming, hiking, and the outdoors.
